Đông Phương Mỹ Nhân is a red oolong tea with complex fruity and honeyed aromas with subtle notes of oranges. This tea comes from Tan Lap, a small mountain village located in the province of Mộc Châu.
The picking is very fine for an oolong. Indeed, only the main bud is picked with its 2 youngest leaves (generally the first 3 leaves are selected for oolong tea). So we can say that we are dealing here with an imperial pick. This is what gives it its clarity and lightness.
The color of its infusion is a very beautiful orange red reminiscent of wild honey. The elongated leaves of this 70% fermented tea are dark purple brown with some white tints at the tips of the young buds.
Đông Phương Mỹ Nhân is (like its cousin Quý Phi) a very special Oolong tea. Indeed, it is thanks to the bites of leafhoppers, small insects feeding on the sap of the leaves that this tea obtains its color and its unique taste.
This type of tea is quite rare because it requires the presence of leafhoppers in the gardens. After suffering the leafhopper bites for a week, the tea leaves stop growing and turn yellow. They are then carefully selected before being picked. It is only after the fermentation process that they take on a delicate honey and fruit flavor.
